Get up to £10,000 grant to upgrade your diesel van to electric

A3 EV grants are £5,000 towards a small new electric van and £10,000 towards a medium or large electric van.

Vanwise is now accredited by Surrey County Council as part of the A3 EV Grant Scheme. Meaning If you drive your diesel van on the A3, you could be eligible for a grant of up to £10,000 to upgrade to a fully electric van. And we can help find the right EV for you.

Surrey County Council is working in partnership with Guildford Borough Council to deliver a £11 million National Highways scheme, aimed at reducing high levels of pollution in the area. Applications can be made on the Surrey County Council website at www.surreycc.gov.uk/a3evgrant

Who is eligible for the A3 EV Grant Scheme?

Diesel van owners who drive along the Guildford stretch of the A3 more than three times a week, could be eligible for a grant to replace their vehicle with an electric model.

Is your business eligible? Find out below:

• Do you do at least 150 single journeys per year – around 3 trips per week – on the A3 between the A31 junction to Farnham and Guildford’s Woodbridge Hill junction?
• Do you drive at least one roadworthy diesel light commercial vehicle which you’ve owned for at least a year?
• Have you received less than £315,000 in subsidy over the last 3 years?

Why you should make the electric switch?

Save costs

  • No oil to change, no engine to manage, with fewer parts to wear down, electric vehicles are cost-efficient and easier to maintain.
  • No Clean Air Zone charges when travelling in other towns and cities.

Future- proof

  • With the extension of clean air zones, the phasing out of new petrol & diesel car and van sales by 2035, going to EV will future-proof your business fleet.

Less air pollution

  • The A3 stretch from Farnham A31 junction to Guildford's Woodbridge Hill junction to A25 and A322 is the most polluted road in the UK, excluding London. It is vans that account for 15% of the traffic, but 45% of the nitrogen dioxide (NO2) air pollution, by switching to an EV you will help make the air cleaner.

More efficient engines

  • Electric motors are 77% more efficient - they get more than twice as many miles out of the same amount of energy as petrol engines*
  • Electric vans offer instant torque, providing quick acceleration and smoother driving experience.
  • EVs are quieter, meaning less noise pollution for more enjoyable drive.

How does it work

1. Check if your business or charity fit the eligibility criteria
2. Find a new fully electric van, from the eligible vehicle list, which suits your business needs
3. Apply for a grant online. We cannot place an order before your application is approved.
4. Your business application will be reviewed by Surrey County Council
5. If successful, you will be issued with a voucher to the value of the approved grant, to take back to us. The voucher is valid for 90 days. The grant is net of VAT, taken off the full price of the vehicle only, excluding any additional services which the dealership may also provide and charge for. You will not receive any money directly.
6. Complete the vehicle purchase with finance, cash or lease.
7. Pick up your new fully electric van or minibus, fitted with its telematic device. Drive at least 150 single journeys on the Guildford section of the A3 each year for 2 years.
