The Citroen Relay is one of the largest and most capable vans in its class – and also one of the best to drive. Versatile, practical and great value, with striking looks and generous equipment levels, it deserves its popularity.

Available in a variety of lengths, heights and body styles, the Relay can has a load volume of up to 17 cubic metres, with a payload of 2,310kg. A sliding side door is standard on all models, and you can load a euro pallet through the 1.25m-wide opening. The Relay also has one of the lowest load sills in the class, at between 49cm and 60cm high, which makes it easy to lift heavy items in and out. A full steel bulkhead is standard on all panel vans, and the rear doors are reinforced to help prevent damage. You can also get your Relay as a chassis cab, crew cab, tip-up truck, Luton van and dropside.

The roomy cab has 13 storage spaces, including a document clipboard on the dashboard, a lidded box and cup holders. The high driving position ensures good visibility to the front and sides, and the driver's seat and steering wheel are both height-adjustable to help you find a comfortable position. A DAB radio with Bluetooth and USB connectivity is standard on all models, with steering-wheel-mounted audio so you can adjust it easily while you're driving.

On the road, the Relay rides comfortably and handles well, with quiet engines and light, accurate steering that makes it easy to manoeuvre, corner and park. Relays from 2016 onwards are powered by a punchy 2.0-litre BlueHDi engine with up to 158bhp and 258lb ft of torque; older models have 2.2-litre or 3.0-litre engines. Running costs should also be some of the lowest in the class, with fuel economy of up to 48.7mpg and service intervals of every two years or 30,000 miles.

Standard equipment includes ABS electric front windows, heated mirrors, a driver's airbag, remote central locking and an immobiliser.
