Compact, fun and efficient, the Volkswagen Caddy is a deservedly popular small van which combines practical functionality with good driveability. Available in standard or Maxi length, with the latter able to carry up to 736kg, it’s an efficient and versatile option for businesses with lower load requirements .
Sliding doors come as standard to make loading and unloading large items easy and six tie-down points keep cargo secure on the move. A towing capacity of up to 1,500kg means there’s room to transport more when required too.
The spacious cabin offers plenty of storage, helping to keep it tidy during busy working days, and the lockable glove box provides extra security for valuable items. You’ll be entertained on the road too: a two-speaker DAB+ radio CD player with Bluetooth, USB, MP3 and aux connectivity comes as standard, giving you instant access to music and communication.
On the road, the Caddy is lively, powerful and refined, reaching 62mph from a standing start in just 9.4 seconds and going on to a top speed of 117mph. Its compact dimensions and small turning circle make it particularly good at city driving, and at just 1.8m high, you can comfortably get it into a multi-storey car park. The steering is well weighted too, making handling at both low and high speeds responsive.
Used Volkswagen Caddy models from 2016 onwards come with either a four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine or a 1.0-litre 101bhp petrol. All are Euro 6 compliant, meaking them a smart option for those going into the city. More recent models also benefit from regenerative braking, which recoups some of the energy lost when braking and sends it back to the battery, while start-stop technology increases efficiency around town.
Safety is an important consideration during your working day, and standard measures include airbags, hill hold assist, electronic stability control, traction control and ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution. Since 2018, all Volkswagen vans have had autonomous emergency braking as standard too, which warns you if a potential crash is identified and increases braking power to help you avoid a collision. For security, there’s remote central locking and an immobiliser.
The Caddy comes in three trim levels, with basic Startline models including electric heated mirrors, electric front windows, power steering, a 12-volt socket and more. Trendline variants add air conditioning, cruise control and rear parking sensors, while Highline adds satellite navigation, automatic wipers, front fog lights and alloy wheels.
