The Ford Transit has been on sale for well over 50 years, and it’s remained popular for all that time, quite simply because it still sets the standard to which other vans aspire. Durable, reliable, and hugely practical – it has up to 15.1 cubic metres of load space – it was the UK’s second bestselling van in 2018, beaten to first place only by its Transit Custom little brother.

One of the larger compact vans around, and available in myriad configurations, the popular Berlingo combines flexible, practical load space and a comfortable cabin with quirky looks and generous equipment. A 2016 or 2017 Berlingo with less than 25,000 miles on the clock, and powered by a Euro 6 compliant, 1.6-litre BlueHDi diesel engine, can cost less than £10,000.
